COVID-19 Catch-Up Premium
In the 2020/2021 academic year, the government has allocated money to ensure that children make up for lost teaching time that occurred during lockdown.
We have initially put support into Year 3 and 6 to support transition from Year 2 and also to ensure that Year 6 children are ready for Year 6 curriculum to then enable them to be ready for transition to Year 7 in September.
In Year 3, we are focusing on phonics, language and reading, to ensure that identified children can quickly catch up and then be ready for the Year 3 curriculum as soon as possible. We have expertise in the current staff to support this and one of our current part time members of staff will work alongside the Year 3 team to support the children identified through assessments as having need. This will be done in class alongside the teacher and also by withdrawing small groups or individuals for additional support.
In Years 4 and 5, similar strategies will be enabled to support class teachers to help plug identified gaps in learning where appropriate.
In Year 6, a current part time teacher has been given extra hours to support the class teacher, by taking the class, so that the class teacher can support the children to develop identified “gaps in learning” with small groups and individuals to enable them to quickly catch up.
