What is PE?

The new National Curriculum sets out it aims for Physical Education to ensure all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

At Shakespeare Junior School, every child takes part in at least 2 hours of high quality PE and Sport every week, with the opportunity to extend this through an extensive range of sports clubs.

What does it look like at SJS?

We are fortunate to have access to superb sports facilities at Shakespeare Junior School. Our large playing field is used for teaching football, tag rugby, hockey, cricket, rounders and athletics and the playground is used for netball, multi sports, short tennis and many other sports activities. Gymnastics (Real PE) and dance (lead by an experience instructor) are taught in our well-equipped hall. We also access to Fleming Park Swimming Pool enabling every Year 5 pupil at Shakespeare Junior School to enjoy a swimming lessons as part of their curriculum learning.

As part of the Toynbee Cluster the we participate many inter school competitions throughout the year.
